Veneto, Italy: a guide to the most beautiful places. Veneto

The Veneto region is located in the northeastern part of Italy. It borders Trentino Alto Adige and Austria to the north, Emilia Romagna to the south, Lombardy to the west, Friuli Venezia Giulia to the east and the Adriatic Sea to the southeast.

The territory of the region is very diverse in terms of natural landscapes. There is also a coastal zone, and a monotonous plain, and hills (Kolli-Euganei and Monti-Berichi). This diversity is also reflected in the climate: in the Dolomites it is cold, and on the Adriatic coast it is mild. A separate phenomenon is Lake Garda: you can come here all year round, since the climate here is so mild that in a number of parameters it can be compared with subtropical.

The regional capital is Venice; other important cities include Verona, Padua, Vicenza, Treviso and Rovigo.

Tourism

Veneto is a region with the widest opportunities for recreation. It is one of the first cities in the world in terms of museum towns with many stunning works of art, but the natural heritage of Veneto - the Dolomites, parks, reserves and much more - is of great interest. Here are a few of the region's most important treasures, recognized as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

Venice and the Venetian Lagoon (listed by UNESCO in 1987). The whole city, founded in the 5th century. and known all over the world, it is a masterpiece of architecture, where even the buildings of the second row can be decorated with the works of the largest masters of the level of Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto, Veronese. Every year, the La Fenice Opera House, reconstructed to its full glory after a fire in 1996, hosts major opera festivals and symphonic music concerts. There are 118 small islands in the lagoon.

Botanical Garden of Padua (listed in 1997). This is the first botanical garden in the history of mankind, founded in 1545. It has retained its original form: the circle in the center of the garden symbolizes the world surrounded by a circle of water. In the following centuries, other decorations and balustrades were added, pumps and greenhouses were equipped. The scientific center, founded simultaneously with the garden itself, continues to work.

City of Vicenza and Andrea Palladio's villas in Veneto (listed in 1994 and enlarged in 1996). Vicenza was founded in the 2nd century. BC. and experienced a period of particular prosperity under the rule of Venice from the 15th to the 18th centuries. The uniqueness of this city is given by the buildings designed by Andrea Palladio (1508-80), the founder of classicism. Palladio's urban palazzos and country villas scattered throughout the region had a huge impact on the development of architecture. A whole trend appeared - Palladianism - which spread to England, other European countries and North America. The region's leadership has launched the "Veneto Villas" project with a single standard of service and a special card for tourists.

City of Verona (listed in 2000). The ancient city of Verona was founded in the 1st century. BC. It reached its peak of development under the Scaliger dynasty in the 13th-14th centuries, and flourished under the rule of the Venetian Republic in the 15th-18th centuries. Verona has preserved many monuments of ancient antiquity, the Middle Ages and the Renaissance; The system of city defensive structures is also noteworthy. In the central square of Piazza Bra is the Roman amphitheater Arena, where the famous summer opera festival has been held for many decades.

Dolomites (listed in 2009). One of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in the world. The mountain range covers an area of 141,903 hectares, on which there are as many as 18 peaks with a height of more than 3000 m. The Dolomites were included in the list of world heritage sites because geomorphological and geological features make them an object of world importance.

In the Dolomites you will meet sheer cliffs, deep gorges, long valleys, ridges and spiers, glaciers and karst phenomena. Many fossils have also been discovered here; It is believed that the Dolomites are one of the best landscapes in terms of the level of preservation of Mesozoic carbonate platform systems.
Veneto has six nature reserves. They are not as well-known as the more popular tourist destinations, but the nature in them has been preserved in its original, untouched splendor. Among the protected areas, for example, the Po Delta - a microcosm born from the endless struggle of sea, river and earth - the Belluno Dolomites with giant boulders and breathtaking panoramas, as well as the enchanted Ampezzo Dolomites, where you can try to find a rare young plant.

The Colli Euganei Park will delight you with soft hillsides and beautiful landscapes, volcanic nature and thermal springs. The park of the river Sile seems to have come out of a fairy tale: the clear waters of the longest European river, whose source is a karst spring, flow either calmly or violently along the soft plain between Treviso and Venice. And finally, Lessinia Park is a real paradise for lovers of paleontology and archeology, where you can admire interesting karst phenomena: sinkholes, grottoes and bridges made of naturally formed rock.

Veneto on the map

Thank you for subscribing friends. Memorable travels and see you on the blog.

The Italian region of Veneto is of great interest to everyone who comes to the country for the first time. A huge number of travelers strive to get into the territory, rich in natural and man-made attractions.

It is not for nothing that the Veneto region in Italy is called the true treasury of the country. The fertile region, which has gathered all the best for tourists, is able to satisfy the dreams of vacationers.

Hospitable Italy

Italy, striking in its beauty, hospitably welcomes all tourists from different parts of the globe. Veneto has been ranked first in terms of attendance for many years. The translation of the name of the region - "color scale" - is significant and characterizes the appearance of the region as accurately as possible. The most picturesque nature and unique architectural monuments will remain in the memory of travelers for a long time.

ancient region

The name of the region comes from the tribe of the Venets, who inhabited the territory of the Adriatic coast. It is believed that the Roman emperor Augustus, who devoted much time to civil engineering, became the founder of the region.

After the fall of the once great empire, the main pearl arose - Venice, which became a small but powerful republic, with which the history of the region is most closely connected.

Seven provinces of Veneto

Possessing a rich culture and history, it is not for nothing that unique Italy is called Mecca for tourists. Veneto is an ancient region, consisting of seven provinces, characterized by a wide variety of attractions. On the map of the region, you can find a huge number of interesting places for guests of the country that can surprise even the most demanding tourists.

The capital of the region is a beauty on the water

It would not be an exaggeration to say that most of the guests rush to Italy just to visit the city sung by musicians and artists, which has real magic.

The capital of the Veneto region - Venice - is not in vain considered an open-air museum. Deserving special attention falls in love at first sight. Of course, its main attraction is the transport links through the canals. Walking along the waterways on gondolas is incredibly popular among tourists who admire the front facades of ancient buildings facing the water surface.

The city of bridges and romance fascinates with an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Here everyone will find entertainment to their liking, and those who came to the traditional carnival remain impressed by the phantasmagoria they saw.

Amazing Verona

Another attraction of Veneto is Verona, whose fame was brought by Shakespeare's brilliant play about young lovers. The events described in the work are reminiscent of two houses built in the 12th-13th centuries. And although no one has proven that two warring Italian families really existed, the architectural masterpieces in which the Capuleti and the Montagues lived are considered symbols of love and fidelity.

Juliet's house

Now in Juliet's House the interior of those times when tragic events took place has been recreated, and a bronze sculpture of a beauty in love has been installed in the courtyard. The Casa di Giulietta museum, open to the public, is famous for its legendary balcony, from which the charmer listened to the sweet words of her lover.

Crowds of tourists are always scurrying around here, leaving vandal graffiti on the walls and touching the statue of Juliet polished to a shine. There is a legend that everyone who touches the statue will be happy in love, and each guest tries to verify this on their own experience.

Restaurant, not a museum

But with the house where Romeo allegedly lived, everything is much worse. The city authorities several times offered to buy the old building from the owner, but the owner did not want to sell the building, but turned it into a restaurant. Therefore, you can go to a local attraction, but only to refresh yourself.

Padua and its special atmosphere

No less beautiful is the province of Padua, which has the oldest university in the country and a large number of architectural monuments. Its capital is a small city of scientists, which will help you plunge into a special atmosphere saturated with ancient history. Preserving several centuries of ancient frescoes made by the great Giotto and the relics of St. Antonio, Padua enchants and gives vivid impressions to travelers.

Concerned about the cultural heritage of Vicenza

The province of Vicenza is just made for a great holiday. The hospitable region, famous for luxurious hotels and boarding houses with mud baths, provides a unique opportunity to improve your health.

The "cradle" of A. Palladio, who recreated the appearance of the capital, will surprise you with delightful architectural masterpieces, which the province is known to the whole world. Veneto (Italy) takes care of the cultural heritage and carefully preserves it for posterity. The greatest works of the brilliant architect are declared monuments protected by UNESCO.

The beauty of Rovigo

The province of Rovigo, famous for its magnificent landscapes, will allow all tourists to feel unity with nature. On the territory there are many luxurious villas built during the time of the Venetian patricians. Evidence of past eras will surprise with its beauty and tell all the secrets that Italy has kept for many years.

Veneto: Belluno

The northern province will delight its guests with natural attractions. Impressive mountain landscapes will make you forget about everything. Virgin beauty attracts a huge number of travelers who dream of being away from civilization.

History of Treviso

Carefully preserving its ancient history, Treviso will allow tourists to feel the spirit of the Middle Ages. The variety of castles, palazzos, fortifications in the province will enchant anyone who comes to get to know this charming corner.

wine region

It is impossible not to mention that the Veneto region in Italy has been holding the palm for many years in terms of production of fine wines. The region, which gave the world a lot of legendary products, has won the love of all connoisseurs of sparkling drink.

For example, Corvin grapes are used to make red wine with the aroma of herbs and cherries - valpolicella.

But the Italians consider amaron a unique phenomenon. Only here a delicious drink from dried grapes is born. The wines that go on sale five years after harvest have an unusual taste with notes of chocolate, dried fruit and coffee.

Kitchen features

Continuing the conversation about the national characteristics of the local cuisine, it must be emphasized that at all times the eternal and always young Italy was famous for its culinary traditions. Veneto is a real paradise for gourmets. All tourists celebrate amazingly delicious food, which is based on seafood. Restaurant chefs bake fish and shellfish, grill shrimp and sea bass.

One of the main delicacies is carpaccio with olive oil. Interestingly, the recipe for thinly sliced raw meat was invented in Venice. Risotto is a national treat, and gourmets try a variety of its types.

A fascinating journey through the province of Veneto, the sights of which are difficult to describe in one article, will give a lot of vivid impressions. The most developed has a rich heritage, which most tourists dream of touching.

Veneto is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy and one of the most visited. It contains all the best that the country is rich in: medieval streets, history, masterpieces of art. But most importantly, it includes Venice and Verona - cities that you need to visit at least once.

Geography of Veneto

Veneto, also called Venice, is located in Northeast Italy. For centuries it has been an independent state with its own colonies. But then Austria withdrew and, finally, Italy. Now Veneto is among the most developed regions of the country with a flow of tourists that already exceeds 70 million annually.

Veneto is located between the Dolomites, the Adriatic Sea and the Carnic Alps. The landscapes of the region are varied. Here the mountainous part with lakes and green forests gives way to hills planted with vineyards and orchards.

Getting to the Veneto region is not difficult. The city of Venice has a large airport serving many destinations. Verona Airport is also distinguished by a wide geography of flights.

Map of the Veneto region

Big cities

By Italian standards, Veneto is a densely populated region. Therefore, there are three large cities with a population of over 200,000. Venice is the most visited city in the region, attracting with a rich cultural life, many historical monuments and an unusual location on the water. Venice is treated differently: someone admires its beauty, someone criticizes it, calling it “too touristy”. And indeed, it is quite difficult to eat inexpensively and tasty or to distinguish original souvenirs from fakes. But all the shortcomings of Venice fade before her heritage.

Verona is another major city of Venice, which is famous for its Gothic and Romanesque churches, rich museums, palaces, medieval and ancient Roman architectural monuments. He is primarily associated with Romeo and Juliet. But Verona is also an excellent gastronomy, cozy atmospheric streets and a good shopping destination. You can't ignore Padua. This city has excellently preserved historical architecture. It is also famous for its noisy atmosphere, street markets and the Sherwood Festival, which annually brings together musicians from many countries.

Verona, Italy

Climate Veneto

On the territory of the region, the climate varies from Mediterranean on the coast to Alpine in the foothills. The higher, the more severe the temperature: in winter it can be up to -10 °C. In other areas, it does not fall below +1 °C. In summer, the temperature stays at +29 °C. In Venice, there is almost no suffocating heat, which makes the region comfortable for travel.

Attractions Veneto

In Verona, the main attractions are associated with Romeo and Juliet. You can always see a lot of tourists at Juliet's House, which lead paid tours. And the patio is allowed to visit for free. On Pontiere Street there is a church in which, according to many, Juliet rests. After examining the ancient sarcophagus, you can go to the Museum of Frescoes. It is located in the same church and houses the most valuable frescoes collected from different places in Verona. Also in Verona, you can not pass by the Roman amphitheater. The grandiose building is not only a pink marble monument, but also a concert venue.

Doge's Palace, Venice

In Venice, in addition to its canals, the Doge's Palace deserves attention. It does not look like the first version of the building, but has not lost its appeal. Inside its halls are decorated with the most beautiful maps made by Italian masters, gilded stucco, paintings and statues. The soul of Venice is Piazza San Marco. This is a cult place, the main symbol of which was the cathedral of the same name.

Burano Island, Venice

Its wealth is art from Constantinople, a golden altar, richly decorated icons and mosaics. Once in Venice, it is impossible not to go to the island of Burano, where bright houses look like toys.

Padua is no less interesting for excursions. A huge repository of art objects is the local Scrovegni Chapel. Inside, it is completely painted with frescoes of religious themes, made in the 14th century by the artist Giotto.

Holidays in Veneto

Venice, with its mild climate, is suitable for those tourists who cannot stand the heat for a beach holiday. Here is located Venetian Riviera which includes several resorts. Bibione- a good choice for those who want to relax on clean beaches and at the same time improve their health in thalassotherapy centers. For a family holiday, a prestigious Lignano with excellent sandy beaches surrounded by lush greenery.

Resort Bibione, Veneto, Italy

Caorle- a popular resort that has retained the image of a fishing town. Its beach stretches for 15 km, and from the coast you can go on a short excursion around the lagoon. The peculiarity of the resorts of the Italian Riviera is that almost all of them have preserved historical architecture. Therefore, passive recreation here can be combined with active excursions.

shopping

The main souvenir from Veneto is Murano glass, products from which are in extraordinary demand among tourists. On sale there are animal figurines, jewelry, original interior items, the secrets of which have been kept secret for several centuries. It is better to purchase products on the island of Murano, so as not to encounter fakes.

Lace product from the island of Burano

Venetian gold is another must-buy in the area. The most expensive items are brooches depicting Moors, palaces, lion heads, masks. Pendants are a little cheaper. The lace of the island of Burano, which has long been known for the talent of local craftswomen, is no less valued. It is better to make a purchase in a textile store - lace is often faked. On sale there are both tablecloths and napkins, as well as collars or garments. Lace will not be cheap, but a very valuable acquisition.

As for branded items, it is better to shop in Padua - the prices here are lower than in Venice. There are numerous boutiques in the city center, and there are several large outlets near Padua. Discounts up to 50% are offered here all year round. In Verona, you can visit the Franciacorta outlet. This is a whole "trading village" with 200 shops and a rich infrastructure.

👁 Do we always book a hotel on Booking? In the world, not only Booking exists (🙈 for a high percentage of hotels - we pay!). I have been using Rumguru for a long time, it is really more profitable 💰💰 Booking.
👁 And for tickets - in air sales, as an option. It has been known about him for a long time. But there is a better search engine - skyscanner - more flights, lower prices! 🔥🔥.

Therefore, I created a club and am happy to share useful information for travelers.

As you can see from the list, my favorite country is ! I've been ten times and want more. I have a lot of information about it, and today I will share with you my impressions only about the Veneto region.

1 /1

Yes, exactly our own, since each of us has our own Italy - after all, we all look at the world through our keyhole. For each of you, Italy will have its own taste, color, smell, sensations to the touch ... For me, Italy is always a holiday:

  • A feast for the eyes - everything is very beautiful here! The most incredible architecture in the world. Cradle of European culture and art. Amazingly beautiful, well-groomed and immaculately dressed people! And what is the beauty and diversity of landscapes!
  • A feast for the ears - favorite Italian music from childhood, from opera to contemporary Biaggio Antonacci. And in general, it seems to me that the whole country, from taxi drivers to gondoliers, is constantly singing!
  • A holiday of taste - well, this is a topic for a separate dissertation. Moreover, each region will have its own separate reason for this scientific work. So tasty, as in Italy, will not be anywhere else on the planet! Only for the sake of Italian wine and prosciutto with gorgonzola, spaghetti con tartufo, and of course gelato - I personally am ready to fly here at any moment.
  • A feast of smell - from the smell of fresh pastries from the nearest bakery and the smell of leather in a shoe store to a new fragrance from Armani.
  • A holiday of touch - when, walking around the shops, you can stroke the kid skin on bags or velor furniture upholstery.

And, of course, your vestibular apparatus will lose its sense of balance in space, as it will seem to you that you are no longer walking, but soaring from all these delightful sensations.

But let's get back to the ground, or rather, to the Veneto region. When I was creating our autumn club trip to Italy, I was choosing for a long time where to take the group in order to impress all the senses. And the choice fell on the Veneto region - because there is everything for this: the warmth of thermal springs, and the beauty of nature, the taste of cheeses, sausages and the best Amarone wine in Italy from the Valpolicello valley, and of course, the most amazing city on the planet, the earth - hovering above Venice water.

Another advantage of this region is that there is a direct UIA flight to Venice – just 2 hours and you are in Italy! The first thing to do upon arrival is to take care of your body, exhausted by the bustle of the city. And this is best done in the thermal resort of Abano Terme, which is only 40 km from the airport. For several trips, I found my favorite, and most importantly the most correct in terms of price = quality, hotel - Hotel Mioni Pezzato & SPA. The hotel is over 100 years old and has been run by the same family all this time. That is why it is so comfortable and tasty here. And after a recent renovation, here is the most modern thermal center in Abano - a lot of warm pools with various installations for underwater massage and healing and instantly relaxing water.

Padua

After we have caressed the body with the warmth of the springs, it's time to think about the soul. Very close to Abano is the student capital -. In addition to the obligatory point of the program - the Scrovegni family chapels with the famous frescoes by Giotto - go to the Basilica of St. Anthony. For me, a visit here has become an exciting experience, when you can touch a miracle - pilgrims from all over the world come here for it. And all these people come here because of the tomb of St. Anthony, which is all hung with photographs of the healed and their letters of thanks. Saint Anthony is the most revered saint in Italy, the patron saint of children, the poor and travelers. "Too much mercy, Saint Anthony!" Italians say when they get more than they want. It is called the "Light of Italy". That is why I recommend that you make sure to take the time to visit St. Anthony's Basilica.

Verona

The next city in my TOP of the Veneto region is a romantic one (from inexpensive hotels I can advise a nice four in the center - Hotel Giulietta e Romeo). Verona is one of the most beautiful, but at the same time very lively cities in Italy. Perhaps this is the first city in Italy in which I wanted to stay to live. It is surprisingly cozy and at the same time pulsates with life.

We were here in the spring. We lived right next to the best-preserved Arena di Verona in Italy. And we were lucky, because on the very first evening there was a concert by Biaggio Antonacci in the arena. It is clear that the tickets were no longer on sale, and we just sat in a cafe next to the arena on Bra Square. And what was our surprise when the concert began. Incredibly, thanks to the unique acoustics in the arena, the entire square could listen to the concert live. It was an unforgettable romantic evening in the most romantic city in the world - in the company of your favorite singer and a bottle of local rose Bardolino Chiaretto.

If you arrive in Venice and, having rented a car, travel around the Veneto region, I recommend spending at least two nights in Verona - there is where to take a walk. My TOP is, of course, Juliet's House, two marvelous squares on which there is a monument to Dante Alighieri and the Fountain of the Madonna of Verona, and in the evening it is pleasant to dine on Bra Square overlooking the Arena. During the day, it is very soulful to walk through the Giusti gardens and along the river, crossing from one side to the other along medieval bridges and admiring the combination of the beauties of nature and architecture from different angles. And in Verona, great shopping.

Well, my only dream is to get to the summer opera festival in the Arena di Verona. Those of my clients who have already visited it were completely delighted, especially from Aida.

And one more tip: if you are in Verona in the warm season, be sure to visit the neighboring (only 30 km) Lake Garda - the Italian inland sea. Beautiful nature combined with soulful towns - Lake Garda will be the topic of my separate article.

Venice

And today, for dessert, I'll tell you about Venice! Ah Serenissima - as the Italians call it - the brightest! No, well, there is simply nothing else on earth like this city! This is a fabulous vision hovering over the sea surface.

I highly recommend that if you are flying to the airport for the sake of Venice itself, do not skimp on the transfer, but take a personal water taxi (although it costs about 100 euros) and enter the city by water from the lagoon. Now I'm writing this and goosebumps! I cried with delight while traveling 7 or 8 times, and three of these exhilarating moments happened to me in Venice. When you approach this city from the sea, at first it is impossible to understand whether it is a mirage or really a person was able to create such beauty right in the swamps on stilts, contrary to all the laws of nature!

It is impossible to believe that the human spirit, combined with the titanic labor and talent of the greatest architects and artists, is capable of such a flight! The second knee-wrenching moment was the view of the city from above from Campanile San Marco. And the third was the sunset in Venice - when the golden frescoes on the Cathedral of San Marco “light up” from the oblique rays of the sun - it is especially impressive if you listen to Alessandro Safin at the same time.

And in general, the whole of Venice is a dream come true. In no case can you come here only for a few hours. You have to stay here for at least four nights. And then
