Sofia asks:

Hello. I was worried about abundant white discharge, after going to the doctor they diagnosed bacterial vaginosis. Prescribed metronidazole tablets, and suppositories betadine and livarol. It seems that the discharge disappeared, but after menstruation they reappeared, but in a smaller amount, and with a more jelly-like consistency. Tell me what to do, maybe another treatment?

Responsible Bosyak Yulia Vasilievna:

Hello Sofia! Menstruation in most cases provokes an exacerbation of bacvaginosis or candidiasis (thrush). I advise you to contact the attending gynecologist, who will re-take a smear and prescribe treatment.

Love asks:

Hello! I am 23 years old, I faced such a problem, 1.5 months ago I had thrush, the gynecologist prescribed Livarol suppositories for 10 days. All the symptoms of thrush have passed and now they have begun again, itching and incomprehensible lumps of white discharge, as after suppositories they usually come out, and tonight in general in large quantities and incomprehensibly light yellow! I was very frightened of such secretions, I have not noticed it yet, tell me very much, I ask you what to do ?? My gynecologist is currently on vacation..

Olga asks:

Hello! I have such a question .. for the second week it hurts with right side stomach .. the pain is not clear .. and she doesn’t have an exact place .. later the pain began to radiate to the back (lower back), and it seems like the pain became completely below .. but it didn’t go away on the right side at all .. it doesn’t hurt constantly .. sometimes it’s a little nauseous, the temperature .. but not more than 37, and it seems to me more likely from my experiences and thoughts .. sometimes there are white discharges, but odorless .. there is frequent urination .. and frequent urge to go to the toilet for the most part, I decided go to the gynecologist .. she said that I have a small cyst and after menstruation it will most likely resolve .. and she also revealed a thrush, prescribed candles Livarol, Acilact, Fluconazole for 3 days and Bifiform.

Responsible Korchinskaya Ivanna Ivanovna:

A small cyst is most likely a follicular cyst, which should disappear with menstruation. Theoretically, it should not give pain. Are your periods regular? Most likely it is spasms of the intestines or cystitis if frequent urination is observed. I advise you to pass general analysis urine and blood, especially if there is subfebrile temperature. Treatment of candidiasis is prescribed correctly. I wish you success!

Tina asks:

Hello! Recently, Gardenerella and inflammation of the vagina were found in me, there are no infections. After the treatment prescribed by the doctor (nystatin, livarol, fermalac), I passed an analysis - bakposev for microflora and Gardenerella vaginalis 10 ^ 6 CFU / ml was found again, there is itching and white discharge.
Tell me, please, how can I reduce their number and resume normal flora? Will just a local antiseptic without antibiotics help? What would you advise? Thanks in advance!

Responsible Korchinskaya Ivanna Ivanovna:

I would advise taking an antibiotic, in my practice there were similar cases when local treatment did not bring results without the use of an antibiotic. Contact the attending gynecologist for a prescription of the drug, virtually I do not have the right to do this.

Anastasia asks:

Hello. I have had white vaginal discharge for six months. At the same time, the mucous membrane is irritated, redness and itching appear. There were suspicions of thrush and inflammatory processes, which were not confirmed during the tests. Just in case, as a prophylaxis for thrush, the doctor prescribed Livarol suppositories and Futsis tablets. After their application, the discharge did not pass. Prompt, what is it can be and how to get rid of it.

Nastya asks:

Good afternoon! She fell ill in July 2011, when a moderate amount of white discharge appeared against the background of stress. The gynecologist clinically without tests, diagnosed thrush, prescribed livarol. after treatment, there are more than 100 leukocytes in a smear, the discharge persists, but outwardly different. The doctor says that this is the norm after antifungal treatment. In September, I repeat a smear of L more than 100, they prescribe an analysis for chlamydia, ureaplasma, mycoplasma hominis and genitalium, gardnerella, they find ureaplasma. vagisan 2 weeks In January, I do tests again - L-up to 50, but they find mycoplasma hominis (from where I have been protected with condoms all this time) + pyogenic streptococcus, herpes +. 2 types of antibiotics are prescribed + locally terginan, neotrizol, douching with citeal for 10 days (after therapy, the discharge becomes more abundant and yellow). After 2 weeks, I take tests for L up to 80, there is no mycoplasma, there is steptococcus epidermal and fecal + the same herpes + cytomegalovirus. ..again they give a general antibiotic, local douching with herbs for 10 days, klion d, terjinan. All this time I have cervical erosion. The question is whether it is worth taking the last appointments. th antibiotic for 3 months, why does mycoplasma suddenly emerge, if earlier it was not there during 3 checks in other laboratories and all this time I used condoms??

Responsible Markov Igor Semenovich:

Hello Nastya. You are not treated, but, unfortunately, crippled. Mushrooms, mycoplasma and ureaplasma have nothing to do with your complaints. You have urogenital dysbacteriosis (UGD) caused by bacteria of the intestinal group, in which the use of antibiotics is contraindicated. If you do not stop immediately, you can stay sick for life. You can read more about the treatment of UHD on my website.

Ludmila asks:

Hello! I am 34 years old. A couple of days ago I finished treating thrush, did everything as the doctor prescribed me, drank Mycomax N3 tablets and put Livarol N10 suppositories. But now I don’t have abundant white discharge. What could it be and what in this case to do. And another question, I had such a problem about half a year ago, after I eat fish or seafood, a strong unpleasant smell of fish appears from my vagina, the doctor says that this is normal, that this is the case for everyone , especially since all the tests are normal. But I haven’t had this before. It gives me great discomfort. Help me, please, tell me what to do? Thank you very much in advance!

Allocations after the use of suppositories very often disturb women during the treatment of diseases or after the use of suppositories. This can bring discomfort or even the very feeling that the disease has been cured disappears. Such discharge may be normal with this treatment, but you should know when to look out for such symptoms, as they may indicate complications. Therefore, it is necessary to know the main symptoms and complications that may occur during the use of suppositories in order to prevent their occurrence in time.

Causes of discharge after the use of candles

The use of suppositories in gynecological practice is very common, since this dosage form is the most accessible in this case in terms of local treatment pathologies. Candles are used with different mechanisms of action and for different pathologies. The most common disease of the female genital organs is fungal vaginitis or "thrush". This is a pathology that is characterized by the reproduction of the fungal flora of the vagina with the development of the corresponding clinical manifestations. This occurs against the background of the fact that the number of vaginal lactobacilli and Doderlein sticks decreases, which normally form lactic acid in the vagina during the breakdown of glucose and thus help maintain a slightly acidic vaginal environment. This is one of the main local defense mechanisms of the vagina, which is disturbed in women with candidiasis or fungal vaginitis. For the treatment of this pathology, as the most common among diseases of the female genital organs, candles are widely used. The names of suppositories for the treatment of this pathology can be completely different, but active substance all these suppositories are antifungal drugs - ketoconazole, fluconazole, nystatin, itroconazole, fungicide. They can also use combined preparations, which in one suppository have not only antifungal, but also antibiotics, then their action is more complex. The main names of such candles are Anticandin, Moronal, Fungicidin, Nystatin, Polygynax, Stamiin, Fungistatin, Neotrizol, Vagikin. These suppositories have a different composition and different methods of application and dosage, but due to their pronounced effective local action, they are very widely used even in pregnant women. Another indication for the use of suppositories is bacterial vaginosis. This is a non-communicable disease, which, in terms of frequency of occurrence in women, ranks second after candidiasis. This pathology lies in the fact that the number of Doderlein sticks decreases, and the ratio of aerobic and anaerobic flora also changes, which also changes the environment in the vagina to alkaline. This is accompanied by clinical symptoms of vaginal discharge and require the appointment of local treatment in the form of suppositories. Therefore, the use of suppositories is very wide, which in turn is important in the occurrence of complications of therapy or their clinical manifestations.

One of the symptoms during treatment vaginal suppositories is the appearance of unpleasant discharge immediately after each use of the candle or after complex treatment. Beli can be of a different nature and depend on the cause. The most common cause of discharge after candles may be the features of the mechanism of action of the candle itself. The candle, in addition to the compound active substance, has many other components, it is powder, glucose, which contribute to better resorption of the suppository on the mucous membrane. In this case, part of the active substance is absorbed, and the other part, together with additional substances, can be excreted after each use of the candle in the form of unpleasant whites. Distinctive feature such secretions is that they occur after each application of the candle.

Another reason for the appearance of discharge after the use of suppositories may be secondary infection with improper use of treatment. Then whites have a characteristic appearance. Also, the cause of discharge after suppositories may be a response to this method of treatment.

It is necessary to correctly use suppositories for treatment as intended, and if any whiteness occurs, it is necessary to find their cause in order to determine whether this phenomenon is normal or pathological.

Symptoms of discharge after using suppositories

Symptoms after treatment with suppositories may occur during treatment, immediately after treatment, or some time after the course of treatment. The appearance of such symptoms must be clearly differentiated from the pathological manifestations of the disease.

The first signs of this pathology are the appearance of secretions after each application of the candle. At the same time, whites are small in number and have a white color, odorless and do not cause discomfort in the form of itching and burning. This is normal, since a small amount of additional substances that are contained in the suppository are released. This is considered normal and does not require treatment and is not something to worry about.

Symptoms of discharge after the use of suppositories may occur at the end of the course of treatment or after its completion. In this case, you should pay attention to their color, character and features. Indeed, the local effect of the suppository in the presence of concomitant pathology in the uterus or on the cervix can cause similar symptoms that require correction of treatment or complete discontinuation of the drug. Such clinical symptoms are characterized by the appearance of bloody discharge or whiteness of yellow or green color, which may indicate their ineffectiveness or re-infection. At the same time, in addition to discharge, other symptoms appear in the form of unpleasant sensations, itching, burning in the vagina, urination disorders, cramps during urination. This already indicates the presence of a serious problem that needs to be corrected in time, so a second consultation with the doctor is necessary so that he corrects the treatment or cancels it.

Clinical symptoms of leucorrhea after suppositories may appear after treatment, they may be of a different nature and may indicate that the treatment was incomplete. Indeed, very often one treatment with candles is not enough, since complex treatment is necessary using generic drugs, as well as concomitant bowel treatment. Therefore, the use of candles can only be initial stage treatment, and then it is still necessary to restore the normal flora in the vagina.

The different nature of the secretions indicates different types pathology, which helps in the diagnosis, differential diagnosis and treatment of pathology.

Bloody discharge after suppositories occurs in the presence of concomitant pathology. If there is a polyp, cyst or focus of endometriosis in the vagina, then the use of suppositories can cause such whites. This happens if, in addition to antibiotics and antibacterial drugs there is a small amount of hormonal components, then the reaction very often occurs in the form of bloody whites. This is due to the fact that under the influence of the active substance, blood is stimulated from the focus of endometriosis. In this case, this should be paid attention, since it is impossible to continue the same treatment.

White discharge after candles is often normal, as a symptom of a reaction to the candle itself. Therefore, if such whites appear and they do not cause any discomfort, then you should not worry. If the discharge is curdled in nature, then you need to think about the ineffectiveness of the treatment and re-contact the doctor for advice.

Brown discharge after suppositories may indicate an incomplete course of treatment or re-infection. This may be a specific urogenital flora, so special attention should be paid to such secretions. Brown leucorrhoea can also be bloody in composition, but they can change color under the influence of the candle itself, so this must also be taken into account.

Yellow or green discharge after suppositories may occur with re-infection after treatment or with improper use of suppositories. After all, candles should be placed at night or in the morning after all hygiene procedures, since a candle can be a conductor of infection and bacteria from the lower sections of the vagina can move higher. In this case, re-infection occurs, which requires the use of antibacterial agents. If the leucorrhoea has a curdled character after the use of suppositories, then this may indicate an incomplete treatment, since the antibiotic contained in the suppository suppresses the number of beneficial lactic acid bacteria in the vagina and this contributes to the activation of fungi. Therefore, it is necessary to prescribe drugs that are probiotics after suppositories.

Orange discharge after the use of suppositories is often on certain drugs, for example, when using "Viferon". This can also be normal as it is the remains of the base or active ingredient, so don't worry.

Beli of a different nature and color after the use of candles can be in every woman and it is necessary to determine when to worry. Generally speaking, spotting and purulent with an unpleasant odor indicate the presence of some kind of pathology and require a doctor's consultation. If the leucorrhea is not abundant and matches the color of the candle, then this is most likely the remains of the base and should not be worried.

Complications and consequences

The consequence of the appearance of secretions after the use of suppositories can be not only an aggravation of the pathology, but also an infectious inflammation, which has an ascending character. In case of untimely access to a doctor, inflammation of the uterine appendages - adnexitis, as well as inflammation of the renal pelvis and Bladder with the development of pyelonephritis and cystitis.

A complication of discharge can be a protracted process in the uterus with a slow regression of symptoms, so it is necessary to carefully monitor such phenomena.

Diagnosis of discharge after the use of candles

Diagnostic signs of discharge after the use of suppositories include mainly complaints about the appearance of pathological whites. It is necessary to clarify the anamnestic data about the nature of the discharge, their quantity, color, as well as the method of using suppositories for treatment.

When examining a woman in the mirrors, you can see the cervix, possible concomitant diseases in the form of polyps, foci of endometriosis, which can be the cause of bleeding after the use of suppositories. You can also see whites, determine their color and character. Mandatory is microbiological research smear from the posterior fornix of the vagina. This smear makes it possible to determine the possible pathogen in case of re-infection, as well as to determine the effectiveness of the treatment.

For more accurate diagnosis, special instrumental research methods are carried out. Colposcopy is a diagnosis of the cervix with a special device that has a magnifying power from 2 to 32 times, depending on the power. Such an increase allows you to see any changes in the epithelial cover that are not detected during a normal examination in the mirrors. In addition to simple colposcopy, extended colposcopy is also performed. At the same time, the area of the examined epithelium of the cervix is stained with trichloroacetic acid, iodine or Lugol's solution, and the degree of staining is looked at. Areas of altered epithelium will be pale against the background of normally stained epithelium. Such a diagnosis allows you to confirm the presence of other concomitant conditions, such as metaplasia, polyp, endometriosis, cyst, which in turn can be the main or only cause of discharge after the use of suppositories.

Differential Diagnosis

Differential diagnosis secretions after suppositories must be carried out according to the nature and color of these leucorrhoea, which can provide a basis for the assumptions of a particular pathology. It is also necessary to clearly differentiate the appearance of discharge after the use of suppositories, which are normal, from those that occur during infection, since untimely treatment of infectious pathology can cause complications. Whites during the infectious process are yellow or green, have an unpleasant odor and can cause discomfort in the form of itching, burning and tingling. Normally, leucorrhea after suppositories, which are the result of the release of the remnants of the base of the drug, do not cause any sensations. If we are talking about infection, then there will also be an intoxication syndrome in the form of a rise in temperature and a change in the blood test.

Given these features, it is necessary to clearly distinguish the main features clinical course these different conditions in order to timely adjust therapy and prevent the occurrence of complications.

Treatment of discharge after the use of suppositories

Treatment of secretions after suppositories is mandatory only if it is clearly confirmed that these are pathological discharges. Then you need to urgently decide on the method of treatment, which can be medication or folk method. It is also necessary to address the issue of changing therapy in case of confirmation of an infectious agent.

Conservative treatment of cervical metaplasia provides for complex treatment using various directions.

The regimen for this disease is general, dietary recommendations are without features, a healthy diet is recommended. For the period of treatment, it is necessary to refrain from sexual activity.

Concerning medicines, then for etiological treatment it is necessary to determine the type of pathogen and its sensitivity to various antibiotics. To do this, a smear from the vagina is examined for pathological flora with the simultaneous determination of the sensitivity of the pathogen to antibacterial agents.

Drugs that are used in the case of discharge after the use of suppositories are mainly aimed at reducing the inflammatory process and eliminating the source of infection by eliminating the pathogen. Therefore, anti-inflammatory drugs, antifungal and antibiotics are used. The best route of administration is topical therapy, which provides a good effect along with general treatment.

With white or yellow discharge in the form of curdled masses, it is most likely that we are talking about candidiasis or a fungal infection. In this case, it is necessary to use antifungal agents, and Nystatin is most often used, since it used to be the "gold standard" for the treatment of candidiasis, but over time the standards were revised due to the formation of fungal resistance to this drug. To date, they are returning to it due to the fact that microorganisms have “forgotten” this drug a little and it has a high efficiency.

Nystatin is a drug that has an antifungal effect, which is especially pronounced in relation to yeast-like fungi. A drug from the group of polyene drugs, which has a pronounced effect on fungi and does not affect the bacterial and viral flora. In moderate therapeutic doses, the effect of the drug is to temporarily block the reproduction of fungi, that is, it has a fungistatic effect.

nystatin like pharmacological drug It is available in various forms - in tablets, in ointments, in suppositories, and is also part of combined preparations. Suppositories, that is, suppositories, are distinguished between vaginal and rectal, which are used respectively for the treatment of candidiasis of the vagina and intestines. Tablets, ointment and suppositories have a similar tradename- "Nystatin", as well as the drug is part of the combined candles for the treatment of candidiasis with the name of the drug "Polygynax". The dosage of the drug for the treatment of discharge after the use of suppositories is the starting one, and in the case of using suppositories, it is 250,000-500,000 per day. Candles must be placed twice a day, in the morning and in the evening after hygiene procedures. The course of treatment is 7-10 days, depending on the regression of manifestations. The drug is contraindicated for use, especially during pregnancy, if there is a history of allergic reactions or if you are allergic to additional components of the drug. Side effects occur very rarely precisely because of the peculiarities of pharmacodynamics, since the drug is not absorbed and does not affect the systemic organs. If the dose is exceeded, dyspeptic disorders can occur in the form of abdominal pain, nausea, malaise, and vomiting. There may be local manifestations when using suppositories with nystatin in the form of itching, discomfort in the vagina, burning.

Precautions - during pregnancy and lactation, you should consult a doctor.

In the event of a discharge after the use of suppositories that are associated with an endometrioid cyst, it is necessary to carry out hormonal treatment. For this, both monocomponent preparations and complex preparations are used.

Janine is a low-dose, biphasic combined estrogen-progesterone drug that helps to balance the hormonal background and suppresses the secretion of endometrioid areas. It is available in the form of dragees, the number of which is 21. Reception starts from the first day menstrual cycle. Due to the content of estrogens and progesterone, the drug can regulate any hormonal disorders. Reception one tablet per day for 21 days, then a break for 7 days, then the reception is resumed. Side effects can develop in the form of dyspeptic manifestations, skin allergic reactions, changes in the mammary gland in the form of pain, swelling, and bloody uterine discharge. Contraindications to the use of the drug are diabetes, thrombosis and other vascular problems, migraine, as well as pregnancy and lactation.

If the discharge is purulent and proven infectious nature such secretions, then antibiotic therapy is mandatory. For this, systemic antibiotics are used, which are most pronounced capable of inhibiting pathogenic organisms. In parallel with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory suppositories are used as local remedies. Of the antibiotics, preference is given to drugs of a wide spectrum of the cephalosporin series.

cefepime- a beta-lactam antibiotic from the 4th generation cephalosporin group, which has a pronounced bactericidal effect on gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, that is, it covers a huge spectrum of microbes. Produced in the form of a powder for injection of 1 gram. The drug is used at a dose of 1 gram per day, administered intramuscularly or intravenously with an interval of 12 hours. The course of treatment is 7-10 days.

Contraindications to the appointment are allergic reactions to penicillins or other beta-lactam antibiotics. There was no negative effect on the fetus during pregnancy. Side effects are possible from the gastrointestinal tract, allergic manifestations, reactions nervous system in the form of headache, drowsiness, dizziness.

Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in the form of suppositories are used as anti-inflammatory therapy.

Dicloberl- a drug that has - anti-inflammatory, anti-edematous, antimicrobial effect. It also relieves pain, signs of irritation and inflammation, which contributes to a better effect along with the use of an antibiotic. Available in the form of suppositories for local therapy of 50 and 100 milligrams. Candles are administered rectally twice a day after the toilet of the genital organs. The course of treatment is no more than five to seven days.

Contraindications to the use of the drug are allergic reactions in history, bronchial asthma, as well as pathology of the gastrointestinal tract in the form peptic ulcer stomach or duodenum, intestinal bleeding, hyperacid gastritis.

Side effects are possible from the gastrointestinal tract in the form of glossitis, damage to the esophagus, stomach, intestines with symptoms of dyspepsia, violations of the evacuation function of the intestine. Allergic manifestations of varying severity are also possible. When the drug acts on the hematopoietic system, anemia may occur, a decrease in the number of platelets and granulocytic neutrophils.

When acting on the heart and vascular system, palpitations, pain in the heart area, disorders heart rate, arterial pressure lability.

It is necessary to carry out general strengthening and immunomodulatory treatment in the form of vitamin therapy in parallel with hormone replacement therapy. Recommend vitamins A and E, and better multivitamin complexes. It is also recommended to take B vitamins in injectable form, and even better complex ones. vitamin preparations- Pregnavit, Complivit.

Among the physiotherapeutic methods of treatment, iontophoresis and electrophoresis are recommended, as well as radio pulse therapy. It is also necessary to prescribe calcium preparations and prophylactic doses of acetylsalicylic acid.

Alternative treatment of discharge after the use of candles

Alternative treatment of discharge after the use of suppositories is of priority, since often re-treatment after the use of suppositories is undesirable. Medicinal herbs and folk remedies are used.

Basic Methods folk treatment this:

  1. Garlic has a pronounced antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect, which allows it to be used to treat pathological leucorrhoea. To do this, juice is squeezed out of a clove of garlic and mixed with boiled water in a ratio of one to one, and then a tampon is made and inserted into the vagina once a day. This can be done for 10 days no more than 10 minutes.
  2. Propolis tincture reduces inflammation and helps to reduce pathological secretions in case of re-infection, and also promotes the regeneration of the epithelium and has a bactericidal effect. To prepare the tincture, 10 grams of propolis should be boiled in boiled water for about 20 minutes, this solution should be infused for at least an hour, after which it is applied orally in a tablespoon 2 times a day.
  3. Honey has a pronounced relaxing effect on the uterine myometrium, and also has a bacteriostatic and immunomodulatory effect. It contributes to the normalization of cell membranes and reduces the hypersecretion of the endometrium, in the event of the appearance of bloody whites after the use of suppositories. For treatment, one tablespoon of honey must be diluted in a liter of boiled water and douching twice a day. Such a course must be completed within 7-10 days.
  4. Aloe leaves, which have a pronounced anti-inflammatory and regenerating effect, are squeezed into a glass and, after wetting a swab, are inserted into the vagina, repeating the procedure once a day for two weeks. In this case, whites should stop after 3-4 days.
  5. Burdock juice perfectly relieves irritation, swelling and has an immunomodulatory effect, which helps to inhibit the reproduction of concomitant microflora. To do this, from the leaves of burdock previously washed, it is necessary to squeeze the juice and take five days, one teaspoon three times a day, and then one teaspoon twice a day for another five days.

Herbal treatment also has its advantages, since herbal medicine, in addition to local action has a general sedative effect.

  1. Acacia shows a good effect in the treatment of discharge after purulent suppositories. To prepare the tincture, it is necessary to collect acacia flowers, dry them, pour them with alcohol and insist in a dark place for at least a day, and then dilute with boiled water, take one tablespoon three times a day. The course of treatment lasts one month.

  4. Nettle leaves also contribute to the restoration of hematopoiesis and relax the myometrium with a decrease in the number of pathological whites. For treatment, a herbal tea is prepared, which has a hysterotropic effect. Nettle leaves and barberry insist in boiled water and boil for another five to ten minutes, after which they drink instead of tea up to four times a day.

Homeopathic remedies for the treatment of discharge after suppositories are also widely used, since they do not contain hormones, but they are able to regulate hormonal levels, and also have anti-inflammatory activity. Main drugs:

  1. Gynecoheel is a combined homeopathic preparation that has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, decongestant effects. The drug is available in the form of drops and is applied 10 drops three times a day, before that it must be dissolved in warm water. Side effects are rare in the form of allergic phenomena.

Take between meals, dissolve under the tongue until completely dissolved, 1 granule 4 times a day. Not recommended for pregnant women. No side effects were found.

Livarol candles are among the ten most effective drugs for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis. Ketoconazole, which is the main component of the drug, has a pronounced antimycotic effect on most strains of fungi.

In the absence of a generalized fungal infection in the body, topical application of suppositories is indicated in the vast majority of cases. The pronounced therapeutic effect of Livarol from the first days of treatment and the minimum number of contraindications explains the popularity of the drug among patients of different ages.

Indications for use

Livarola for both therapeutic and prophylactic purposes. The fungistatic or fungicidal effect of the drug depends on the duration of the course of therapy.

Vaginal suppositories Livarol has a local inhibitory effect on dermatophytes and yeast fungi due to a violation of the biosynthesis of cell membranes.

Violation of the lipid composition of the membrane also occurs in the simplest microorganisms. This allows the use of the drug in the treatment of infectious diseases of the vagina of mixed genesis.

The effectiveness of Livarol against staphylococcal and streptococcal infections has been clinically proven.

Indications for use:

  • vaginal candidiasis (acute, chronic) caused by yeast fungi;
  • in complex therapy generalized fungal infection.

Livarol has a fungistatic effect during the period of hormonal changes in the body. Increased production of progesterone during pregnancy, fluctuations in hormone levels during premenopause explain the rationality of using an antimycotic agent to restore the natural flora of the vagina.

They have a number of advantages:

  1. Widely used in gynecology, Nystatin requires a long course of treatment to achieve a sufficient clinical effect (at least 10-14 days). Despite the lack of resistance of fungi to the action of Nystatin, the presence of side effects limits the use of this drug in women.
  2. Poligynax, Mikozhinaks, Terzhinan with prolonged use require the additional use of products containing lactobacilli to restore the natural flora of the vagina (Ecofemin, Atsilakt, Lactobacterin, Bifidumbacterin). The use of combined antifungal drugs is irrational in the treatment of vaginal candidiasis caused only by yeast fungi.

Application features

Particular attention should be paid to the use of Livarol during pregnancy and lactation.

    1. The active substance clotrimazole has a teratogenic effect on the developing fetus, so the use of antimycotic drugs before the 12th week of pregnancy is contraindicated (especially in the first month when laying organs).
    2. During breastfeeding, the drug is used under medical supervision. Minor penetration active substance into the systemic circulation and breast milk does not have a pronounced side effect, therefore, during treatment, breastfeeding of the child is not refused.
    3. With menstruation, the use of the medicine should be postponed upon completion, because. there won't be much of an effect.

During treatment, you should refuse sex or use a condom. To reduce the risk of recurrence of the disease, simultaneous treatment of the sexual partner is recommended.

A man can use clotrimazole in the form of a cream or ointment. An antifungal agent is applied to the head of the penis 2 times a day and additionally at the time of intimacy. If an allergic reaction occurs, take antihistamines(Diazolin, Suprastin, L-cet, Loratadine). If there is no improvement within 3 days, a doctor's consultation is necessary for further use of Livarol.

Vaginal suppositories are approved for use from the age of twelve under medical supervision.

Mode of application

      1. Candles should be used regularly at the same time. It is desirable to carry out the procedure at night: under the influence of body temperature, the candle dissolves and flows out. The horizontal position of the body prevents leakage of the medicinal substance from the vaginal cavity. The candle is inserted deep into the vagina and kept horizontal position body within 1-2 hours.
      2. Discharge after suppositories involves the use of sanitary napkins to protect against an allergic reaction that clotrimazole can cause on the inner thighs, as well as to protect underwear and bedding from contamination.
      3. During treatment, it is necessary to adhere to the recommendations of the gynecologist. The doctor can adjust the therapy regimen (supplement it with tablets for large-scale damage) or replace the drug if it is ineffective.
      4. The absence of unnatural vaginal discharge indicates the effectiveness of Livarol, however, the course of therapy must be continued according to the instructions for the complete destruction of the infection. Abrupt withdrawal of the drug can cause a relapse of the disease and the development of ketoconazole-resistant fungi. Compliance with the rules for taking Livarol increases the chance of complete destruction of the fungus and prevention of relapse.
      5. Livarol reduces efficiency when used simultaneously with sorbents and alcohol.

What to pay attention to

Candidiasis has feature- the presence of whitish curdled discharge from the vagina with a sour smell. However, their presence does not exclude secondary infection with pathogenic flora. Similar symptoms have diseases such as:

      • and others.

Bacteriological culture allows you to identify the causative agent of the disease and prescribe effective remedy. Therefore, it is so important not to self-medicate, but to visit a gynecologist when any unnatural vaginal discharge appears.

      • Pimafucin;
      • Lomixin;
      • Pyrithione zinc;
      • Oronazole;
      • Ginezol;
      • Gyno-Travogen ovulum;
      • Gynofort;
      • Betadine.

The composition of these drugs with a similar effect includes other components, the combination of which can reduce allergic manifestations. For example, you can switch to using an antifungal cream or ointment.

How much candles cost depends on the manufacturer and the pharmacy chain.

Candles Livarol - effective method local treatment of fungal diseases of the genital area, subject to the recommendations of the manufacturer and the attending physician. Strict adherence to the rules for the use of vaginal suppositories significantly increases the effectiveness of treatment, prevents the transition of the disease to chronic form.

Candles livarol- this antifungal drug, which is used to treat and prevent fungal diseases of the vagina. When inserted into the vagina, this drug destroys foreign microorganisms ( predominantly pathogenic fungi), thereby eliminating clinical manifestations diseases and contributing to the restoration of the normal microflora of the vagina.

Livarol is active only against pathogenic fungi, while it does not affect the cells of the human body. When applied topically ( when inserted into the vagina) the absorption of the components of the drug into the systemic circulation almost does not occur ( only negligible concentrations of the active substance are found in the blood), as a result of which it is safe and practically harmless to humans.

Normal microflora of the vagina

The amount and composition of the microflora of the vagina depends on the age of the woman, as well as on many other factors related to the physiology of the female body. Some bacteria are constantly present in the vagina, while others can be found only in a certain number of women, which is not abnormal.

The permanent microflora of the vagina includes:

  • lactobacilli (L. acidophilus, L. fermentum, L. plantarum and L. case ). Normally, their number can reach 107 - 109 colony-forming units in 1 milliliter ( cfu/ml) vaginal discharge. Lactobacilli restrict the growth of other microorganisms and also prevent colonization ( settlement) of the vagina by pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Their antibacterial action is due to the secretion of lactic and other acids, as a result of which the acidity of the vaginal environment is significantly reduced ( pH - 4.4 - 4.6). Also, some lactobacilli are able to secrete substances that have a detrimental effect on various microorganisms ( hydrogen peroxide, lysozyme and so on).
  • Bifidobacteria. Found in 7 - 11% of healthy women. Maintain the acidic environment of the vagina.
  • Peptostreptococci. They are allocated in 40 - 90% of women. Their number can increase with various bacterial infections of the vagina.
Also in the vagina in a small amount can be found:
  • clostridia;
  • mobiluncus;
  • prevotella;
  • bacteroids;
  • fusobacteria;
  • streptococci ( S. epidermidis);
  • enterobacteria;
  • mushrooms of the genus Candida candida albicans).
Immediately after birth, the girl's vagina is sterile, that is, it does not contain any microorganisms at all. However, on the very first day, various microorganisms settle there, which can penetrate the vagina during childbirth, during a medical examination, and upon contact with various objects and materials. A few days later in the vaginal ( vaginal) the microflora of the newborn begins to be dominated by lactobacilli, which normally account for more than 90% of all vaginal microorganisms.

The development of lactobacilli in the vagina is due to physiological hormonal changes occurring in female body. Immediately after birth, the female sex hormones circulating in the girl's blood are estrogen, which passed to her through the placenta from the mother's blood. These hormones control the growth and maturation of epitheliocytes, the cells that line the surface of the vagina. Estrogens also stimulate the formation of glycogen in epithelial cells ( glycogen is a storage form of glucose, which is a source of energy for many cells and microorganisms). All this contributes to the development of lactobacilli, which, in the course of their life, attach to epitheliocytes and break down glycogen, resulting in the formation of lactic and other acids.

About a month after birth, maternal estrogens are excreted from the girl's body, and her own are synthesized only in small quantities. As a result, the proportion of lactobacilli in the vagina decreases, which creates favorable conditions for the development of other types of microorganisms.

During puberty, the growth and functional activity of the female gonads is activated ( ovaries). As a result, the concentration of estrogen in the blood rises again, and lactobacilli begin to predominate in the vaginal microflora. Certain fluctuations in the composition of the microflora of the vagina can be observed during the menstrual cycle, which is also associated with the synthesis of estrogens. Its concentration in the blood is maximum from about 9-10 to 15-16 days of the cycle. By the end of the cycle, it decreases significantly, as a result of which the proportion of lactobacilli in the vagina may also decrease.

During pregnancy, the concentration of estrogen in the female body is constantly maintained at a high level, as a result of which lactobacilli predominate in the vagina. After childbirth, their proportion decreases, and the number of bacteroids and other microorganisms increases, which can contribute to the reproduction of foreign bacteria and fungi ( this can also be facilitated by trauma to the birth canal during the passage of the fetus through them). However, these changes are temporary and by the end of 6 weeks after birth, the composition of the vaginal microflora returns to normal.

After menopause, the concentration of estrogens in a woman's blood decreases significantly, resulting in a decrease in the number of lactobacilli in the vagina and an increased risk of developing bacterial and fungal infections.

vaginal candidiasis candidiasis) - causes and methods of treatment

Vaginal candidiasis is a common infectious disease of the vagina, which 75% of women have had at least once in their lives.

Causes of candidiasis

The development of the disease is provoked by fungi of the genus Candida, and in more than 95% of cases - Candida albicans, occasionally - other types of Candida ( C. glabrata, C. tropicalis, C. crusei).

Candidiasis is not a sexually transmitted infection. Candida albicans is a common inhabitant of the vagina, but normally does not cause any diseases, since its activity is inhibited by lactobacilli. With a decrease in the protective properties of the body and the vaginal flora, candida are activated and multiply intensively, populating the vaginal mucosa and leading to the development of an inflammatory process in it.

Contribute to the development of vaginal candidiasis can:

  • Decreased overall body resistance. This may be seen in many acute or chronic diseases, as well as in case of malnutrition, lack of sleep, and so on.
  • Taking antibiotics ( systemically or vaginally in the form of suppositories). Antibiotics destroy all bacteria, including vaginal lactobacilli, but they do not affect the fungi in any way, which contributes to the growth and reproduction of the latter.
  • Taking oral contraceptives ( birth control pills ). These drugs contain female sex hormones and change the hormonal background of the female body, which can contribute to the development of fungal infections.
  • Reception of cytostatics. These drugs are used to treat tumors and inhibit cell division throughout the body, resulting in a decrease in the intensity of immunity ( that is, the ability of the immune system to fight foreign microorganisms).
  • Taking glucocorticoids. These drugs are used to treat diseases of the immune system, as well as many acute and chronic inflammatory diseases. The mechanism of their action is associated with the suppression of the body's immune system.
  • Diabetes. In diabetes mellitus, the general protective properties of the whole organism decrease, and blood microcirculation in all organs and tissues worsens, which contributes to the infection.
  • AIDS ( acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). This is a viral disease in which viruses infect ( destroy) cells of the immune system, as a result of which the intensity of immunity gradually decreases.
  • Untreated candidiasis in a pregnant woman. In this case, the child can become infected with fungi during childbirth ( when passing through the birth canal of the mother).

Symptoms of candidiasis

Symptoms of the disease are caused by the reproduction of pathogenic fungi in the vagina and the development of an inflammatory reaction in response to the introduction of foreign agents into body tissues.

Vaginal candidiasis can manifest itself:

  • Itching and burning in the vagina. These manifestations are associated with the development of the inflammatory process. Itching may worsen at night, after sexual intercourse or after water procedures.
  • The appearance of pathological discharge from the vagina. The discharge is white, consists of cheesy masses and mucus.
  • Pain during intercourse. excessive strong pain in the vagina due to the development of the inflammatory process and increased sensitivity of inflamed tissues.
  • Pain when urinating. Pain in the vagina is due to the inflammatory process. At the same time, stabbing pains in the lower abdomen and frequent urge to urinate may indicate the spread of the infectious process to the urinary tract.
To make a diagnosis, the vagina is examined using mirrors. On examination, the edematous and inflamed mucous membrane of the vaginal walls, covered with a white curdled coating, is revealed. Microscopic examination is performed to confirm the diagnosis examining vaginal discharge under a microscope), as well as sowing secretions on special nutrient media, on which it is possible to grow fungal colonies.

Treatment of candidiasis

Treatment of vaginal candidiasis is to fight the candida itself, as well as to eliminate the factors that contributed to the development of the disease.

Treatment for candidiasis includes:

  • Use of antifungal drugs that are injected into the vagina ( in the form of vaginal suppositories or tablets) or taken orally.
  • Use of local antiseptics ( drugs that destroy different kinds bacteria and coffins) for washing the vagina.
  • Temporary ( for the period of treatment) limiting the use of birth control pills, antibiotics, glucocorticoids and other medications that contribute to the development of candidiasis. If necessary long-term use antibacterial drugs they should be combined with antifungal tablets.
  • Timely and adequate treatment of underlying diseases ( such as diabetes).

Instructions for use of the drug livarol

Livarol suppositories are recommended to be used only after consulting a doctor and making a correct diagnosis.

Pharmacological group

The active ingredient in livarol is ketoconazole- an antifungal drug local application. It is ketoconazole that has a therapeutic effect in candidiasis. Also in each candle livarol there are other excipients in certain concentrations.

The excipients of the drug livarol include:

  • Butylhydroxyanisole - waxy substance with antioxidant properties ( reduces tissue damage in the focus of inflammation).
  • Macrogol - base for suppositories ( candles), which is used to give them required form and size.
In addition to livarol, other drugs that include ketoconazole can be used to treat vaginal candidiasis.

The mechanism of action of the drug

The antifungal effect of the drug livarol is provided by the active substance ketoconazole. After insertion into the vagina, the suppository melts at body temperature, and its substance evenly covers the entire mucous membrane. Ketoconazole penetrates the surface membranes of pathogenic fungi and inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol in them. This substance is necessary for fungi to form phospholipids that make up their cell wall. In the absence of ergosterol, new phospholipids are not formed, as a result of which the wall of the fungus is gradually destroyed, and the fungus itself dies.

When injected into the vagina, livarol has:

  • Fungistatic action - slows down the process of growth and reproduction of pathogenic fungi.
  • Fungicidal action - destroys pathogenic fungi already present in the vagina.
Since ergosterol is absent in the membranes of the cells of the human body, ketoconazole does not have any effect on them.

Indications for use

The drug livarol is taken to treat fungal diseases of the vagina caused by sensitive fungi of the genus Candida.

Candles livarol appoint:

  • with acute candidiasis of the vagina;
  • with chronic candidiasis of the vagina;
  • with recurrent frequently repeated a) vaginal candidiasis;
  • for the prevention of fungal infections ( candidiasis) vagina ( when exposed to factors that increase the risk of developing this disease).

Contraindications for use

Contraindications to the use of the drug livarol can be absolute ( when to use the drug is strictly prohibited) and relative, when the drug should be used very carefully, in short courses and only under strict indications ( preferably under medical supervision).

It is forbidden to use livarol candles:

  • In the presence of hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or to other components of the drug. Hypersensitivity of the body can develop in relation to any substance, including medicines. This is due to the improper functioning of the immune system. As a result, when the body comes into contact with a certain substance, a cascade of overly pronounced immune reactions is triggered, which can lead to serious complications, sometimes requiring urgent medical care.
  • During the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. In the first trimester of pregnancy, the drug is absolutely contraindicated. At this time, the laying of all organs and systems of the embryo occurs, and the use of ketoconazole ( even local) can adversely affect this process.
Livarol suppositories should be used with caution:
  • In the 2nd - 3rd trimester of pregnancy. At this stage of pregnancy, the likelihood of a negative effect of the drug on the fetus is negligible, however, with prolonged or frequent use, the risk of developing allergic and other negative reactions increases, which may affect the condition of the unborn child.
  • During the period of breastfeeding. It is possible to develop allergic reactions that can affect the composition and quality of breast milk. With short-term use, the likelihood of absorption of ketoconazole from the vaginal mucosa and passing it to the child along with breast milk practically absent. At the same time, with excessively long-term use of the drug livarol, it is possible to increase the concentration of ketoconazole in the mother's blood and the appearance of this substance in breast milk ( at extremely low concentrations).
  • In children under 12 years old. The effect of the drug on the child's body has not been studied. There are no data on any special adverse reactions to date.
  • In the presence of open wounds in the vaginal area. It is recommended to use the drug only after the wound has healed, since otherwise infection may occur during the administration of the suppository, as well as the intake of more ( than usual) the amount of active substance in the systemic circulation.

Dosage and method of use

The dosage and duration of use of the drug livarol is determined by the nature and severity of the disease.

Candles livarol should be used:

  • For the treatment of acute vaginal candidiasis - insert 1 suppository livarol into the vagina ( containing 400 mg of ketoconazole) once a day ( in the evening) for 5 consecutive days.
  • For the treatment of chronic or recurrent vaginal candidiasis - insert into the vagina 1 suppository 1 time per day ( in the evening) for 10 consecutive days.
  • For the prevention of candidiasis - insert into the vagina 1 suppository every evening for 5 consecutive days after the end of menstruation, if necessary, repeating this course every month.
It is recommended to use the drug in the evening before bedtime, since when a suppository is administered in the morning, the active substance may be released from the vagina while walking, running or during other active movements. The candle should be inserted while lying on your back. Before use, you need to open the contour package, remove 1 suppository from it and insert it deep into the vagina ( pointed end forward). After the administration of the drug, it is recommended to remain in a supine position for at least 60 to 90 minutes.

The candle should be used immediately after removing it from the package. It is not recommended to hold it in your hands for a long time or damage ( break, bend). If a candle falls on the floor or on any other surface, it is forbidden to use it, as it is immediately contaminated with various bacteria that are constantly present in the environment. A dropped or damaged candle should be discarded and a new one used instead. It is also forbidden to use the drug if its packaging has been damaged ( before attempting to use) or if the expiration date indicated on the package has expired.

Possible side effects

When injected into the vagina, the active substance of the drug livarol is absorbed from the surface of the mucous membrane in a negligible amount. That is why the list of side effects when using this drug is limited mainly to local reactions.

The use of livarol suppositories can be complicated:

  • Allergic reactions. At certain people hypersensitivity to various components of the drug may be observed ( both to ketoconazole and excipients). As a result, with repeated administration of the drug, abnormal, overly pronounced activation of the immune system and the development of allergic reactions of varying severity are possible ( from local to systemic). In milder cases, the allergic reaction is limited to the vaginal mucosa, which is manifested by its redness and swelling ( it may not be noticeable against the background of inflammation caused by a fungal infection). Patients may complain of increased itching and burning, less often - the appearance of pain in the vaginal area. In this case, further administration of the drug should be stopped, and, if necessary, antiallergic drugs should be taken ( for example, suprastin). In more severe cases, a skin rash may appear in the perineum. Extremely rarely, anaphylactic shock develops - a life-threatening condition that requires urgent medical care and treatment in a hospital.
  • Local reactions in the sexual partner. With unprotected sexual intercourse during treatment with livarol, hyperemia may occur ( redness) partner's penis. The risk of developing this complication increases in the case of sexual contact during the first 4 to 6 hours after the administration of the drug. To prevent this, it is recommended to use mechanical means of protection ( condoms) throughout the treatment period.
  • Recurrent fungal infection. With insufficiently long-term use of the drug, part of the pathogenic fungal flora in the vagina can survive, and after stopping the administration of suppositories, it can re-develop and populate a large surface of the mucous membrane. That is why the drug should be used for 5 days at acute form disease and within 10 days in the chronic form, even if the symptoms of candidiasis ( itching and burning in the vagina) disappeared 2-3 days after the start of treatment.
  • Profuse discharge from the vagina. After the introduction of the drug, increased secretion of mucus and curdled masses is possible ( made up of dead fungi) from the vagina ( observed in more than half of the patients). That is why women are advised to use regular pads rather than tampons during the treatment period.

Is an overdose possible?

As a result of testing the drug livarol, no data on overdose were obtained. With prolonged use of suppositories, the risk of developing adverse reactions increases, but these phenomena quickly disappear after discontinuation of the drug.

With the simultaneous introduction of several suppositories at once, discomfort may occur in the vaginal area. It also increases the risk of side effects, but increases therapeutic effect not visible.

From what age can the drug be used?

During clinical research livarol suppositories were not administered to girls under 12 years of age. At the same time, there are no data on special negative reactions that develop when using the drug in young children. For children under 12 years of age, the drug should be administered only according to strict indications ( in the presence of a laboratory-confirmed diagnosis of acute or chronic candidiasis ) for a period of time prescribed by the doctor. After the end of the treatment course, it is recommended to re-consult with a specialist who can confirm the recovery or prescribe additional treatment ( if necessary).

For children over 12 years of age and adults, the drug is administered in standard doses ( described above).

Is it possible to use during pregnancy?

Local application of the drug livarol is considered relatively safe, since it is almost not absorbed and enters the systemic circulation of the mother or fetus in extremely small quantities. As a result of the studies, it was found that with a single injection of the drug into the vagina of a pregnant woman, the concentration of ketoconazole in her blood remains negligible ( several tens of times lower than after taking 1 tablet of ketoconazole orally). Considering this fact, as well as the short duration of the course of treatment of vaginal candidiasis ( 5 – 10 days), it can be argued that this drug does not affect the woman's body and the course of pregnancy.

However, when entering the systemic circulation of a pregnant woman, the drug can in small quantities penetrate the placenta into the bloodstream of the embryo and adversely affect its development. This phenomenon is most dangerous in the first trimester of pregnancy, when the rudiments of the nervous system, the cardiovascular system, as well as all organs and tissues of the unborn child are formed.

In the 2nd trimester of pregnancy, most organs and systems are already formed ( to a certain extent), as a result of which those negligibly low concentrations of ketoconazole, which can penetrate into the bloodstream of the fetus from the mother's blood, will practically not affect the process of its development. However, use this drug during pregnancy ( during 2nd and 3rd trimester) should only be given under strict indications for a short period of time.

It is also worth noting that ketoconazole can be excreted from the female body along with breast milk. The concentration of the drug in milk is also very low, so it itself cannot have a negative effect on the children's body. However, during the first months and years of life the immune system the child is distinguished by its instability and tendency to pathological, overly pronounced immune and allergic reactions. With the penetration of ketoconazole into the body of a child with breast milk, the child's body may become sensitized to this drug, as a result of which the child will develop an allergy to its various components. People who use this drug in the future may develop allergic reactions ( from skin rashes and hives to anaphylactic shock, which without urgent medical attention can lead to death).

Is it possible to use livarol suppositories during menstruation?

It is possible to use livarol suppositories during menstruation, however, it is recommended to start treatment after the end of menstruation, since otherwise the effectiveness of the drug may decrease.

Candles livarol is an antifungal drug used to treat fungal diseases of the vagina ( candidiasis). Candidiasis can develop with a decrease in the protective forces of the female body, as well as with the use of certain medicines (e.g. antibiotics). In addition, the development of vaginal candidiasis can be facilitated by hormonal changes that occur in the female body during the menstrual cycle. The fact is that under normal conditions, various bacteria constantly live in the vagina. The main place among them is occupied by lactobacilli, which prevent the growth and reproduction of other pathogenic bacteria and fungi. The concentration of lactobacilli in the vagina directly depends on the level of female sex hormones ( estrogen) in blood. With an increase in the concentration of estrogens, the number of lactobacilli also increases, while with a decrease in the concentration of estrogens, the opposite process is observed.

During the menstrual cycle, the concentration of estrogen in the blood changes, which affects the normal microflora of the vagina. During menstruation, the concentration of estrogen in the blood becomes minimal, which helps to reduce the number of lactobacilli in the vagina and increase the risk of developing candidiasis.

The main treatment for uncomplicated vaginal candidiasis is the topical application of antifungal drugs, for example, livarol suppositories ( the active substance is ketoconazole, which kills pathogenic fungi). Suppositories are inserted into the vagina 1 time per day for a certain period of time ( 5 days for acute vaginal candidiasis and 10 days for a chronic form of the disease). After the introduction, the suppository melts and covers the vaginal mucosa, destroying the fungi located on it.

The danger of using the drug during menstruation is that during this period of time a relatively large amount of blood, mucus and sloughing cells of the uterine mucosa are released from the uterus. As a result, the active substance of the drug can be “washed out” of the vagina faster than usual, which will lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of treatment and will contribute to the transition of the disease to a chronic form.

It is best to start treatment with livarol immediately after the end of menstruation. This mode of application is also good because during this period of time the concentration of estrogens in the woman's blood begins to gradually increase. Thus, in place of the fungi “destroyed” by ketoconazole, normal lactobacilli will populate, as a result of which, after a short course of treatment, the normal microflora of the vagina will be completely restored.

Why do white vaginal discharge appear after using livarol suppositories?

The curdled masses of white color that stand out from the vagina during the use of the drug livarol are destroyed colonies of pathogenic fungi. The appearance of these secretions during treatment indicates its effectiveness.

Livarol is an antifungal drug that is injected into the vagina to treat vaginal candidiasis ( that is, lesions of the vagina with pathogenic fungi). As the infection develops, the number of candida in the vagina increases, as a result of which, over time, they can cover the entire surface of the mucous membrane, acquiring the appearance of a white, cheesy plaque. The main treatment for vaginal candidiasis is the intravaginal administration of antifungal agents, such as livarol suppositories. The active substance of this drug is ketoconazole, which has an antifungal effect ( that is, upon contact with pathogenic fungi, it destroys them). In addition to ketoconazole, the suppository contains other components that ensure that the required form of the drug is maintained until it is used.

After insertion into the vagina the temperature in which can reach 37.5 degrees) the suppository melts, as a result of which the active substance covers a large surface of the mucous membrane and contacts the fungal colonies located on it, which then die. Dead colonies of fungi ( which are white curdled masses) are detached from the mucous membrane of the vagina and are released along with the molten substance of the suppository to the outside.

After the end of treatment, fungal colonies do not remain in the vagina, as a result of which the pathological discharge stops.

Can I have sex while taking Livarol?

It is possible to have sex during the period of using Livarol suppositories, but it is not recommended to do this immediately after the administration of the drug.

Livarol is an antifungal drug that comes in the form of vaginal suppositories and is used to treat vaginal candidiasis ( lesions of the vaginal mucosa by pathogenic fungi of the genus Candida). For maximum effectiveness, suppositories should be inserted deep into the vagina. The suppository inserted into the vagina melts, as a result of which its active substance ( ketoconazole) comes into contact with pathogenic fungi located on the mucous membrane and destroys them.

The antifungal effect of the drug persists for several hours, as a result of which candles should be used 1 time per day ( at night before bed). If a woman had sexual intercourse before the introduction of the candle, this will not affect the effectiveness of the treatment or the health of the woman herself. The most formidable complication in this case may be reddening of the mucous membrane of the partner's penis, due to the action of the previously administered drug. To prevent the development of this phenomenon, you can use condoms, which should be used during the entire period of treatment ( 5 – 10 days).

If sexual contact took place during the first hours after the administration of the drug, possible consequences may be more formidable. The likelihood of damage to the partner's penis can also be eliminated with a condom, but the effectiveness of the treatment itself in this case will be significantly reduced. The fact is that during sexual intercourse, most of the dissolved drug is mechanically removed from the surface of the vaginal mucosa. This is also facilitated by increased activity of the glands of the vagina. As a result, after the end of the course of treatment, a certain proportion of fungi may survive, leading to a relapse ( re-aggravation) disease or its transition to a chronic form.

Treatment of thrush with vaginal suppositories with antifungal components gives the greatest effect and allows you to achieve a quick result. You can buy these drugs at a pharmacy without a prescription, but it is advisable to consult a doctor before using Livarol suppositories: what they are prescribed for, how to take them, can they be replaced with analogues if necessary.

Candles "Livarol" contain ketoconazole as an active ingredient. This substance has a fairly wide spectrum of action, including against fungi and bacteria. Ketoconazole is part of many antifungal drugs and is most effective as a topical antifungal agent.

Additional substances (the basis for suppositories) make the treatment much more effective:

  • shape and facilitate the insertion of the suppository into the vagina;
  • reduce the intensity of inflammation;
  • soften the mucous membrane;
  • help heal minor injuries.

Candles give only a local effect for fungal inflammation of the vagina and labia, but are ineffective against fungal cystitis and more serious diseases. However, in this case they can also be used in complex therapy.

Indications for use

Candles from thrush Livarol are prescribed for the following pathologies:

  • With candidal vulvovaginitis (inflammation of the walls of the vagina and skin of the labia). In this case, they are the main means for treating the disease.
  • With candidal cystitis and endometritis, suppositories are prescribed as part of complex therapy along with systemic drugs.
  • Can be used to prevent candidiasis during long-term treatment with antibiotics or glucocorticosteroids.
  • In chronic and recurrent candidiasis, suppositories are used to relieve exacerbation. In this case, the drug is an element of complex therapy, since the fight against the fungus in the vaginal area is not enough.

Also, "Livarol" can be used as a prophylactic agent for candidiasis of other areas of the body in order to prevent the spread of infection to the genitals.

Contraindications

Candles "Livarol" can not be used if hypersensitivity to the components of the drug or to the active substance is detected.

Stop taking and consult a doctor if the following symptoms appear:

  • discomfort;
  • pain in the genital area;
  • swelling;
  • deterioration in general well-being.

The second important contraindication is early pregnancy (up to 12 weeks). At this point, Livarol candles can have a negative impact on the development of the child. After this period and during breastfeeding, these suppositories should be used with caution. It is necessary to consult with a gynecologist so as not to harm your health and the health of the unborn baby.

When using suppositories during lactation, it is sometimes advisable to stop breastfeeding for the duration of treatment.

Method of application, dosage

Livarol - suppositories from thrush, they are inserted into the vagina and dissolve there, providing a local effect.

Mode of application:

  1. Before the introduction of the suppository, it is necessary to thoroughly wash the genitals and wipe the perineum dry.
  2. Then you need to lie on your side and insert the candle with the pointed end forward.

The candle will dissolve itself in a few minutes. The instruction recommends lying down for about an hour after the procedure so that the active substance is completely absorbed. Therefore, it is best to use the drug in the evening before bedtime.

The dosage of the drug depends on the purpose of its appointment:

  • For the treatment of acute candidiasis, a suppository is administered every day at night for 5 days.
  • If candidiasis is chronic or recurrent, the duration of the course increases to 10 days.
  • The prophylactic course lasts 5 days, begins the next day after the end of menstruation, if necessary, repeats monthly.

It should be noted that when suppositories from thrush Livarol are prescribed, the instruction does not recommend using during menstruation, since then their effectiveness is much lower - the active substance is partially lost along with menstrual flow.

It is better to use the drug in the evening, and not in the morning - then the loss of the active substance is excluded along with secretions when walking and running.

In addition, in the morning, the patient may not have time to lie down for an hour after the procedure.

Possible side effects

Candles are one of the safest dosage forms, but nevertheless, their use is associated with certain side effects. These may be local or general allergic reactions in the patient. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor your condition and, if it worsens, stop taking the drug in time and inform your doctor.

Local allergic reactions can be not only in the patient herself, but also in her sexual partner. To prevent them, it is necessary to take a break in intimate life until complete recovery. In general, not useful for both partners.

For women undergoing treatment and using Livarol suppositories, the instructions for use for thrush warns of more abundant discharge than usual. This is due to the fact that ketoconazole causes the death and release of dead fungi along with mucus and curdled secretions. It is advisable to use panty liners during treatment to keep the linen clean.

The use of tampons can lead to the maintenance of inflammation and worsening of the general condition.

Paradoxical as it may seem, but Livarol suppositories help from what, the disease can be provoked. If the drug was used incorrectly, for example, a woman stopped using suppositories before it was prescribed by a doctor, then there is a great danger of a recurrence of thrush. In addition, fungi have the ability to develop tolerance to antifungal drugs, although much less than bacteria. Therefore, with constant misuse of "Livarol" may develop.

Features and limitations of use

An overdose of "Livarol" in clinical trials has not been noted. There are indications that when several suppositories are inserted in a row, discomfort occurs in the vaginal area, and a severe allergic reaction is possible. These phenomena pass independently and rather quickly.

The use of suppositories in girls under 12 years of age is not recommended. There is no reliable data on the danger or safety of such treatment. Assign "Livarol" to children only if there is laboratory confirmation of the diagnosis of genital tract candidiasis.

In no case should you use the drug in girls without a doctor's prescription.

conclusions

Candles "Livarol" from thrush is an effective remedy, but it is important to strictly follow the instructions and prescriptions of the doctor. If this is not done, then their use may not only fail, but also lead to the opposite effect - relapses and chronicity of the disease.

Every woman has experienced this at least once in her life. unpleasant disease like a milkmaid. The reasons that can cause candidiasis are different. It is necessary to start treatment of the disease in time to prevent recurrence. Many different means are used for treatment. Deservedly won a leading place in the top effective drugs Livarol.

Candles Livarol: a unique composition

If you start treatment at the initial stage, then the disease can be effectively and quickly cured. As a rule, at the first symptoms of thrush, doctors recommend using Livarol. The composition of suppositories includes ketoconazole. It has a destructive effect on fungi. The medicine also contains other excipients that uniqueize the composition of the drug.

Ingredients of Livarol:

  • Ketoconazole (40 milligrams);
  • Polyethylene oxide (400 and 1500 milligrams);
  • Butylated hydroxyanisole.

When is Livarol used for thrush?

Candles Livarol are used not only for the treatment of thrush, but also for other diseases:

  • with disturbed microflora of the vagina (most often this happens during pregnancy);
  • with a chronic form of candidiasis that recurs;
  • with chronic and acute mycosis.

Also, Livarol suppositories can be used prophylactically to prevent thrush. They can increase the effectiveness of drugs during antibiotic therapy. Candles can be prescribed to a woman who has had an infectious disease when her immune system is weakened. In such a situation, Livarol helps prevent candidiasis.

Contraindications to the use of the drug from thrush

The development can be prevented by using condoms, which should be used during the entire period of treatment ( 5 – 10 days).

If sexual contact took place during the first hours after the administration of the drug, the possible consequences may be more formidable.

Thrush is the most common disease in women that occurs at any age. The slightest violation of the hormonal background and a decrease in immunity negatively affects the state of the reproductive system. Various means are used to treat the disease, but the most popular remedy is vaginal suppositories. But, unfortunately, no matter how effective the drug is, ignorance of its features can lead to refusal to use it. So, discharge after Livarol by some women is considered a lack of medicine or a side effect. But is it really so?

Reasons for the development of thrush

Thrush (or vaginal candidiasis) is a common infectious disease that almost every woman has encountered. According to medical data, the disease affects 75-80% of the weaker sex.

The disease is provoked by fungi of the genus Candida. The developed pathology is not contagious, not sexually transmitted. These microorganisms are present in the reproductive system of every female representative. In a normal state of immunity, fungi usually do not manifest themselves, since their increased reproduction is controlled by special lactobacilli present in the vagina and providing the necessary acidic environment.

But as soon as there is a failure in the microflora, and beneficial organisms reduce their activity, the acidity in the body decreases. The more the pH approaches neutral, the more favorable the conditions for the reproduction of candida become. They begin to multiply intensively, penetrating the mucous membrane and causing an inflammatory process in the vagina.

The reasons for the development of thrush are:

  • Decreased body immunity due to diseases, poor lifestyle, poor hygiene and other factors.
  • Therapy with antibiotics. The use of strong antibacterial drugs contributes to the destruction of not only pathogenic, but also beneficial lactobacilli. And since antibiotics do not affect fungi, they get excellent conditions for reproduction.
  • Contraceptives, due to the sex hormones they contain, change the hormonal background in the female body, which can cause infection.
  • Cytostatic drugs: inhibit cell division in the body, reducing immunity.
  • Glucocorticoids: a side effect of drugs is a decrease in the body's defenses.
  • Diabetes. A person with this disease has reduced immunity, there are circulatory disorders. As a result of insufficient supply of cells and tissues with useful substances, favorable conditions are created for the development of infection.
  • AIDS: An extremely low level of immunity contributes to the active spread of pathogens.
  • Untreated thrush in a pregnant woman. In addition to the consequences for women's health, the infection is transmitted to the child during childbirth.

Manifestations of thrush

An infection that has developed in the vagina signals its presence with several unpleasant symptoms:

  • Itching and burning. Signs associated with inflammation are especially pronounced at night, after bathing or procedures, intimacy.
  • Specific discharge from the vagina - thick masses, similar to cottage cheese.
  • If they occur in the vagina, this is due to developed inflammation. Complaints of discomfort in the lower abdomen and increased urination are evidence of the spread of infection to the urinary organs.

When making a diagnosis, an examination of the vagina and laboratory tests of discharge are performed.

Treatment of thrush

The task of treating vaginal candidiasis is to suppress the development of the infection and eliminate the causes that caused it.

The complex of medical measures includes:

  • Appointment of antifungal drugs (tablets or suppositories) for intravaginal use.
  • Therapy with antiseptic preparations for disinfection and cleansing of the vagina from pathogenic microorganisms.
  • A temporary ban on the use of contraceptives, antibiotics and other drugs that destroy beneficial vaginal microorganisms and thereby contribute to the development of thrush.
  • Therapy of existing diseases that have a negative impact on the level of immunity.

What is Livarol

Livarol is an antifungal drug in the form of vaginal suppositories, designed to eliminate vaginal infections:

  • Therapy for acute, chronic or recurrent thrush
  • Prevention of fungal infections in patients who have undergone treatment with antibiotics or other drugs that lower immunity and affect the state of the vaginal microflora.

The therapeutic substance of vaginal suppositories is ketoconazole, an imidazole derivative. Depending on the concentration, it has a fungicidal or fungistatic effect. After penetration into the cellular organism of the fungus, it suppresses the production of vital substances of the pathogen. Under the influence of drugs, the synthesis of ergosterol, triglycides and other compounds stops. The resulting deficiency makes it impossible for the formation of new cells, filaments and colonies of the fungus, which leads to the death of the pathogen. As a result, the infectious process is on the decline.

Ketoconazole affects dermatophytes, molds and other fungi. But most importantly, it suppresses candidal pathogens - the culprits of vaginal infection.

How to apply candles

How to use vaginal suppositories for thrush should be determined by the doctor individually for each patient. Usually one suppository per day is prescribed, an increase in procedures is possible according to indications. It is not recommended to change the dosage of the drug on your own.

The suppository is administered in the supine position to the maximum depth. Under the influence of human heat, the remedy will melt and turn into a thick mass that will cover the walls of the female organ. To prevent the product from leaking out, it is not recommended to get up after the procedure. In any case, doctors advise not to rise for 1.5-2 hours after the administration of the drug. In order not to spoil the bedding and minimize inconvenience, it is recommended to use sanitary pads.

The standard treatment regimen for thrush with Livarol is 5 days, with a severe or advanced form of infection, the gynecologist can extend the treatment for another 5 days. In addition, depending on the diagnosis, other drugs may be prescribed.

The treatment course should not be interrupted at the first symptoms of remission, as untreated thrush will return or become chronic. It will be more difficult to get rid of it, and the developed complications will cause serious damage to the body.

A stumbling block for many women is the issue of treatment during menstruation. Doctors do not advise interrupting treatment during menstruation. The medicine does not affect either the cycle or the volume of released blood. Moreover, antifungal suppositories have a healing effect on the mucous membranes of the vagina.

intimate question

Treatment of infectious diseases of the reproductive system often involves the rejection of sexual intercourse. There is no such requirement for Livarol. Gynecologists allow intimacy, but with one condition - you can have sex only before the medical procedure. After applying the candle, this is not recommended.

Otherwise, for the sexual partner, this may result in an allergic reaction to the drug - hyperemia of the penis.

Cause of Discharge Complaints

The main complaints about Livarol are copious discharge after suppositories. They can be white, pinkish or sandy. Most women are frightened, considering this a side effect or an exacerbation of the disease. Therefore, often the appearance of incomprehensible secretions provokes them to early refusal of treatment.

As gynecologists explain, what comes out of Livarol is a normal phenomenon associated with the characteristics of the drug. After dissolution in the vagina and penetration into the epithelial tissue, the multiplied microorganisms are suppressed. The “leakage”, which women so often complain about, is facilitated by the substances contained in the candles. They melt under the influence of human heat and create the effect of a bath. Penetrate themselves and simultaneously deliver ketoconazole to all parts and cells of the vaginal walls. And after the end of the therapeutic action, they leave the body along with the fungi and their metabolic products.

Complaints about discharge in the form of white sand are most often explained simply - these are the remains of a melted suppository. It is necessary to be alert if blood clots appear in the discharge. In this case, you should not postpone the visit to the doctor, contact him as soon as possible.

However, it should be noted that copious discharge after candles, not all women have. Due to the characteristics of the body, for each woman, the effect after candles manifests itself in different ways.

Who should not be treated with Livarol

Like any medication, Livarol has contraindications. Candles should not be used for:

  • The presence of individual hypersensitivity of the body to the constituent components
  • 1st trimester of pregnancy
  • Children under 12 years of age.

The drug is approved for the treatment of thrush in pregnant women in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. But in this case, the question of the use of Livarol should be decided by the gynecologist. The risks to the fetus at these times are minimal. The danger lies in the long-term use of suppositories, as the risk of developing allergic reactions of the body increases, which can adversely affect the health of the unborn child.

Although there is no strict ban on treatment with Livarol suppositories for nursing women, they should take into account that if an allergic reaction follows, it may adversely affect the composition or taste of milk. This is especially important to consider if long-term treatment is ahead. Therefore, the question of the use of suppositories during lactation is best agreed with the doctor.

If a woman has damage to the vagina, it is not recommended to use candles. First you need to achieve complete healing of open wounds, and only after that proceed with antifungal therapy.

What are the side effects

Due to the fact that Livarol suppositories are used for local treatment, the active substance of the drug ketoconazole practically does not pass into the body. Therefore, it does not enter the bloodstream and does not cause a systemic effect. All side effects of the antifungal drug are associated with the reaction of the female organ.

During the course of Livarol, the development of undesirable manifestations is not excluded:

  • Severe itching and burning
  • Redness or swelling of the vagina
  • Pain in the vagina
  • Rashes on the skin in the perineum
  • Headaches, dizziness (in isolated cases).

More serious reactions (anaphylaxis) are extremely rare. Mostly occur when non-compliance with contraindications to the drug.

If any uncharacteristic symptoms appear after using the suppository, you should consult a gynecologist.

Pink discharge that may appear after the procedure is most likely associated with latent erosion. The components of the suppository irritate the blood vessels, and the discharge becomes stained. If this symptom appears, you need to consult a doctor to adjust further treatment.

Livarol vaginal suppositories are considered a good remedy for thrush. They not only eliminate its symptoms, but also relieve the causes of the disease - a fungal infection. But for therapy to be successful, it must take place only as directed by a doctor. Ignorance of the causes of the disease or incorrect definition of infection during self-treatment contributes to the transition of thrush into a chronic form. Getting rid of it will be much harder.

Thrush in women (urogenital candidiasis) is a common occurrence.

The pathology is characterized by fungal origin and has nothing to do with sexually transmitted diseases. At the same time, active candidal fungus causes discomfort to women and complicates gynecological diseases. It is also transmitted to the sexual partner if the sexual life is conducted without a condom.

It is necessary to start treating vaginal candidiasis as soon as possible, using effective topical agents. Often gynecologists prescribe Livarol suppositories - an effective fungicidal drug that is suitable for women of any age, pregnant and lactating mothers.

Livarol: composition and pharmacological properties

In Livarol suppositories, the composition is based on such an active substance as ketoconazole. Auxiliary ingredients are butylhydroxyanisole and the base for vaginal suppositories. Medicinal units are packed in contour cells. Each carton contains 5 or 10 cone-shaped suppositories. The color of the drug is white, yellow or pinkish.

The drug has fungicidal and fungistatic properties. This means that the active substance simultaneously inhibits the vital processes of the pathogen, destroys the structure of its body and provokes death. Useful microflora Livarol does not affect.

Livarol is able to suppress the activity of streptococci and staphylococci, which cause mixed infections and inflammatory processes in the pelvic organs. The use of suppositories in this case provides a complex effect and avoids treatment with a large number of medicines.

Why prescribe candles

The drug in question is effective against any microorganisms. If you have heard about Livarol suppositories, but do not know exactly what they are prescribed for, we recommend that you study the main indications for the use of this remedy.

When Livarol is prescribed:

  • Vaginal candidiasis.
  • Urogenital dysbacteriosis.
  • Therapy of mild and recurrent forms of thrush.
  • Prevention of fungal infections in the field of gynecology, the development of which is associated with weakened immunity.
  • Support for the body after antibacterial and chemical therapy, which led to a disorder in the vaginal biocenosis.
  • Mixed fungal infections provoked by staphylococci and streptococci.

At an early stage of thrush with mild pain and burning sensation when urinating, Livarol suppositories are prescribed for use within 1 to 3 days. Deep into the vagina, suppositories are administered in the supine position. It is more convenient to do the procedures before going to bed so that the melted candle does not leak out. A cloth napkin or panty liner will help protect linen from getting dirty.

The acute form of thrush is treated with the drug for 3 to 5 days. Progressive candidiasis is manifested by symptoms such as:

To improve the condition, suppositories are administered at night, following the recommendations from the instructions.

Chronic thrush with Livarol is treated for 10 days according to the scheme 1 suppository per day. A long course completely cleanses the genital tract from a fungal infection and restores the bacterial balance of the vagina.

Instruction

Livarol for children

Livarol suppositories are not prescribed for girls under 12 years of age. Upon reaching the age of 12 - 15 years, the drug is used according to indications.

During pregnancy

Pregnant women can use Livarol only as directed by a doctor. The first trimester is a contraindication to the treatment of thrush with Livarol during pregnancy. Another contraindication to the use of suppositories, doctors call individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Doctors explain the prohibition of the use of Livarol during pregnancy by the fact that a tiny fraction of the active substance of suppositories enters the body of the expectant mother. Despite a slight concentration in the blood, ketoconazole can cause allergic reactions and have a toxic effect on the fetus, which is at the stage of formation of organs and tissues.

Analogues

Livarol practically does not cause side effects. Only in too sensitive patients can candles cause irritation of the vaginal mucosa. An allergic reaction is manifested by increased itching, swelling and redness of the tissues of the inguinal zone. The skin may react to the drug with hives or an itchy allergic rash.

In such cases, candles are canceled and more gentle analogues are selected:

  • Sebozol.
  • Ginezol.
  • Nizoral.
  • Mycozoral.
  • Lomeksin.
  • Pimafucin.
  • Nystatin.
  • Fluomizin.
  • Macmirror.
  • Primafungin.

A similar therapeutic effect is provided by candles Flagin, Sertaconazole, Ornisid, Candide (synonyms of Livarol).

How much does the drug cost

Each planimetric pack of Livarol is designed for 5 suppositories. The cost of five suppositories varies between 400 - 500 rubles. Accordingly, the price of 10 pcs. candles Livarola will be twice as large. In Ukrainian pharmacies, Livarol is sold at a price of 65 - 140 hryvnia. In Belarus, the cost of the drug ranges from 120 to 190 thousand rubles.

What are the advantages of Livarol against the background of other therapeutic intravaginal suppositories?

The main advantage of the drug is the content of a powerful fungicidal substance ketoconazole. It blocks the synthesis of a protein important for the structure of the mycelium and prevents the emergence of new pathogens.

Given that candidiasis develops under the influence of various factors, there is always a reason to buy Livarol. Thrush is provoked by diabetes mellitus, hormonal changes (including during pregnancy), infectious diseases of a chronic nature, antibiotic therapy and unprotected sexual intercourse. But the most important factor is the weakening of the immune system. Therefore, it is necessary to take care of health and prevent the body from losing resistance to pathogens.

During the period of application of Livarol, it is important not to interrupt the treatment and bring it to the end. If the drug is prescribed for a long time, and the unpleasant symptoms disappeared earlier, the course should be continued until the doctor cancels the therapy. This will avoid recurrence of thrush and prevent the transformation of the acute stage into a chronic one.

An important point in the fight against thrush is the treatment of both sexual partners. Intimate life for the duration of therapy is recommended to be canceled, and it is better not to use barrier contraceptives, since the drug reduces their effectiveness.

Also, a woman is advised to wear underwear made of breathable fabric (preferably cotton and without lace) and review the diet. The menu should be dominated by dairy and plant foods, fresh vegetables and fruits. From flour and sweet carbohydrate products must be abandoned completely or at least limit their consumption. Sweets negatively affect the vaginal environment and the composition of the microflora.

With frequent recurrences of thrush, women should regularly take a smear both during therapy and as the course ends. This approach will help to understand whether the drug copes with its functions and consider replacing it with a more effective analogue.
